On March 1, Marcia Anderson became the University of Manitoba’s new vice-dean Indigenous health, social justice and anti-racism. Dr. Anderson, who currently serves as vice-dean, Indigenous health, will be expanding her responsibilities to include the office of equity, diversity and inclusion, the office of community management, and social accountability. Before completing her MD at the U of M in 2022, she served as a medical officer of health for Indigenous Services Canada during the pandemic while also playing a senior advisory role regarding the management of COVID concerns for students, staff and faculty at the university. She also previously served as chair of the Indigenous Health Committee for the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada, which has led to a heightened awareness of the Indigenous community, the needs to support the education of Indigenous students as well as improved coordination between faculties of medicine in Canada.  From 2017-2020, Dr. Anderson also served as executive director, Indigenous academic affairs for the Ongomiizwin-Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing at the U of M.
