The view from Dubai

An interview with Chet Jablonski, Assistant provost, research and graduate studies at Zayed University in Dubai

BY CAROLYN WATTERS | AUG 04 2009

Welcome to the Dean’s Podcast – the podcast about issues shaping graduate studies in Canada.

In this episode, host Carolyn Watters, Dalhousie University dean of graduate studies, and 2009 Canadian Association of Graduate Studies president, talks to Chet Jablonski, the assistant provost, research and graduate studies at Zayed University in Dubai. The two were tucked away in the back corner of a Starbucks in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Jablonski was the dean of graduate studies at Memorial University for several years, but he made the move to the United Arab Emirates when Zayed expanded its graduate programs just a few months ago. They spoke about the differences between the Canadian post-secondary world and that which has grown more recently along the Gulf Coast. (Running time: 18:13 mins).
